Tan Ky farmers export 35 million forestry seedlings each year

Hybrid acacia is the dominant tree species in Tan Ky with two types of cultivation from seeds and from cuttings. In addition to hybrid acacia, some large production facilities also cultivate other precious wood species such as flower teak, black acacia, longan, sua, Australian cajuput, etc.

Leading the communes in forestry seed production in Tan Ky is Tan Huong commune with about 300 households, supplying the market with an average of about 30 million seedlings each year, followed by Ky Son and Huong Son communes, each producing several million seedlings.

The breeding of hybrid acacia begins with sowing seeds into soil bags packed after grinding the soil with organic fertilizers. After 3 days of sowing and watering, the seeds will germinate.

Due to its growing production capacity and reputation, the forestry seedling area of ​​Tan Ky district not only meets the demand for production forest planting in the province but also exports to the Central provinces such as Quang Binh, Quang Tri to the Northern provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Hoa Binh....

According to the people, the cost of producing forestry seedlings is not high and the land requirements are not too high, but the price fluctuates frequently, the lowest price is only 120 VND and the highest is 700 - 800 VND/seedling and if it is stable at 400 - 500 VND/tree, each hectare of nursery will achieve a revenue of nearly 1 billion VND/year (producing 3 crops per year), on average each sao net profit is about 50 - 70 million VND/year.

In order for the forestry seedling production profession to be stable and develop sustainably, along with establishing cooperatives and craft village management boards in communes for management, Tan Ky district is conducting surveys to develop a plan for seedling production areas, with support mechanisms to guide people to produce forestry seedlings according to the province's planning./.
