America: Suicide trend is increasing alarmingly

(Baonghean.vn)- The suicide rate among Americans increased by 24% between 1999 and 2014 and this trend is continuing to increase. This is the warning of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in a report published on April 22. Suicide is one of the top 10 causes of death in the US.

The CDC report states that except for the elderly aged 75 and older, the suicide rate in all other age groups has increased. Notably, in the middle-aged group aged 45-64, the suicide rate in white women increased by 80% and in white men increased by 59%. In particular, the suicide rate in girls aged 5-14 has also tripled.

According to statistics, the number of deaths due to overdose of these drugs, including suicide, has tripled between 2000 and 2014. Other causes include people with suicidal thoughts not having access to mental health services, domestic violence, and despair due to terminal illness./.
