Northern Vietnam is experiencing a cold spell.
Today and tonight, the Hanoi area will continue to be deeply affected by the cold air mass; northeast winds will be at level 2-3.
Early this morning (May 16th), a cold front affected most provinces in western Northern Vietnam and northern Central Vietnam. Due to the influence of the cold front, there were showers and scattered thunderstorms in northern Central Vietnam. In the Gulf of Tonkin, strong northeast winds of level 7, gusting to level 9, caused rough seas.

Forecasts indicate that today and tonight, the cold air mass will continue to affect other areas in the western part of Northern Vietnam, the North Central region, and some areas in the Central Central region.

Due to the influence of the cold air mass, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected today in provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, hailstorms, and strong gusts of wind. Northeast winds will be 2-3 on land and 3-4 along the coast.
In the Gulf of Tonkin this morning, there are still strong northeasterly winds of force 6, gusting to force 7-8. The sea is rough. Wave height is 2-3 meters. Disaster risk level: level 1.
