The transfer window is not yet open, but the Premier League runners-up have already completed the signing of Swiss international Granit Xhaka from Monchengladbach.

Xhaka vượt qua cuộc kiểm tra y tế cuối tuần trước để ký hợp đồng với Arsenal.

The transfer fee for this deal, according to British press, is around $51 million.

Xhaka arrived in London for a medical last weekend. The Swiss playmaker is believed to have signed a five-year contract with Arsenal yesterday, with a reported weekly wage of $160,000.

Xhaka will join Arsenal after completing his international duty with Switzerland at Euro 2016 from June 10 to July 10.

"I am proud to be joining Arsenal," the 41-times capped Switzerland international said after signing. "I am looking forward to joining Arsenal, playing for the club and playing in the Premier League. I will give my all to help Arsenal win trophies and make the fans happy."

Xhaka comes from a family of Kosovo and Albanian immigrants to Switzerland. He is a product of Basel's youth academy, playing for the first team from 2010-2012, before being bought by German club Monchengladbach for $9.5 million.

Xhaka, 22, was named Monchengladbach captain last summer. He helped the team qualify for the Champions League, where Monchengladbach earned five points, but still finished bottom of a tough group with Man City, Juventus and Sevilla.

Xhaka has been on Wenger and Arsenal's radar for a long time. The French coach is therefore very pleased to recruit this young star: "Xhaka is a promising talent, with good experience playing in both the Champions League and Bundesliga. I have watched him play for a long time, and now he will add quality to Arsenal."

This is Arsenal's first deal in the summer of 2016, adding to the midfield that promises to be seriously short of personnel due to the departures of Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky. With a fee of over 50 million dollars, Xhaka is also the first blockbuster of the summer market of 2016 that promises to be exciting and expensive because player prices will fluctuate strongly according to their performances at the Euro finals in France.
