According to CNN, after securing the Democratic Party's nomination, Clinton affirmed that she is now focusing her attention on choosing a running mate ahead of the party's convention in Philadelphia in July.
Clinton said, "I'm looking at the best-qualified people, including women, because I want to make sure that the person I choose can become president immediately if something happens – that's the most important quality."
She added, "I started focusing my attention on that, and now we've wrapped up the preliminary phase. But for me, it doesn't matter who the individual is, as long as they meet the job requirements."
Clinton was unsure about when she would announce her vice presidential nominee: "I don't know because I'm not sure how long this screening and selection process will take."
The former US Secretary of State also spoke out in defense of her family's Clinton Foundation, saying she was "proud of what the foundation has accomplished" and arguing that contributions from countries to the foundation do not influence her political conduct.
Clinton stated, "The money donated to the fund is used to support humanitarian work. And if people want to influence anyone in office, I think they'll choose political action. And in fact, the work of the fund is the best proof of that."
She also stated that former President Bill Clinton's role at the fund focuses on disadvantaged areas such as Appalachia, leveraging his "capital of experience" on economic issues to help the poorest regions of the country.
Clinton said, "I'm going to pay attention to some areas. I don't think they'll vote for me, but I'm going to help them."
In an interview with CNN, the Democratic candidate also said she plans to reach out to voters who support her primary opponent, Bernie Sanders. She believes that unity against Trump will help heal internal divisions within the party.
Clinton said, “We may have had different approaches in the past, but now we share a common goal. And that is the complete opposite of Donald Trump, who built a fake school that deceived the people. I believe that many voters who support Sanders will join us to ensure that Donald Trump cannot get close to the White House.”
