Many cases are exempted from military service.

From May 1, many subjects are exempted from military service in wartime according to Decree 14/2016/ND-CP of the Government stipulating occupations and professions suitable for the requirements of the People's Army for female citizens of military service age; citizens exempted from military service in wartime.

From May 1, exemption from military service during wartime for Secretaries, Permanent Deputy Secretaries of the Party Committee; Heads, Deputy Heads, Department Heads of Party Building Committees at the Central level; Heads of Party Building Committees at provincial and district levels;

Party Committee Secretary of the bloc; Commander of the Military Command of the Central Party agency;

Chairman, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Head and equivalent positions of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front;

Secretary of the Central Youth Union; Head of the Department and equivalent positions of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union;

President, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Head of Department and equivalent positions of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; President of Provincial Confederation of Labor;

For associations recognized by competent Party agencies as socio-political organizations, socio-political-professional organizations, the State shall assign staff, provide financial support and ensure conditions for organization, operation and management of the association according to Government regulations, including: Chairman, Permanent Vice Chairman, General Secretary and equivalent positions of the Central Association; Chairman and equivalent positions of provincial-level associations;

Exemption from military service during wartime for students who win third prize or higher in national excellent student competitions

In addition, wartime military service is also exempted for Ministers, Deputy Ministers and equivalent positions in Ministries and branches; General Director, Deputy General Director, Department Director, Department Head and equivalent positions in Ministries and branches;

Chairman and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Committees;

Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court; Chief Justice of the People's Court at provincial and district levels;

Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy; Chief Justice of the Provincial and District People's Procuracy.

Department Head and equivalent positions of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuracy;

Chairman, Vice Chairman: People's Council, People's Committee at provincial and district levels; Chairman: People's Council, People's Committee at commune level;

Heads of agencies under and directly under the People's Committee and People's Council at provincial and district levels;

Commander of the Military Command of Central agencies and organizations;

Commander of the Military Command, Chief of Commune-level Police in border communes, islands, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas identified as particularly disadvantaged according to the Prime Minister's Decision.

Citizens working in public service units and state-owned enterprises in border communes, islands, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas identified as particularly disadvantaged in the fields of education, health, postal services, telecommunications, agriculture, forestry, and chemicals;

Students who won third prize or higher in national competitions for excellent students; Students who won medals or titles in international competitions, world skills competitions, ASEAN and 01 child of a martyr; 01 child of a first-class war invalid, a person infected with Agent Orange must have someone to raise them...

Citizens who are exempt from military service may be called up for military service if they voluntarily apply to serve in the People's Army and have the consent of the head of the agency or organization that manages and employs that citizen.
