Will the EU collapse, and Russia become a world power?

According to Reuters, billionaire George Soros said he sees Russia transforming into a world power at a time when the EU is collapsing.

Speaking in London at the "Open Russia" event organized by Mikhail Khodorkovsky, billionaire Soros said that the current situation is largely similar to the history of the formation of European unity and prosperity in the years following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

In early June, billionaire Soros said there was "a good chance" of the EU collapsing due to the immigration crisis, ongoing difficulties in Greece, and if the UK leaves the EU.

"If Britain leaves, it could lead to other countries leaving as well, and the disintegration of the European Union would be almost inevitable," the economist said.

On June 20th, billionaire Soros published an article in the British newspaper Guardian, in which he warned London of a potential "Black Friday" following the referendum, when British citizens vote to leave the EU.

According to him, by doing so, the British would instigate a collapse of the pound sterling, bringing its value down to the same level as the euro. Then, simply put, most of the country's population would become significantly poorer.
