Muhammad Ali, one of the most famous figures of the 20th century, was hospitalized this week with a respiratory illness.
Family spokesman Bob Gunnell said Ali, 74, was in stable condition, but media reports said his health was rapidly deteriorating.
A source who spoke to Ali's wife, Lonnie, said: "Ali's health has deteriorated extremely seriously. He probably only has a few hours left. All funeral preparations have been made."
Muhammad Ali has suffered from Parkinson's disease for more than 30 years and his health has been deteriorating in recent years.
Radar Online reported on June 3 that Ali had to rely on a ventilator to help him breathe. Muhammad Ali’s family has not yet commented on the matter.
Ali's last public appearance was in April 2016 at the "Night of Legends" gala in Arizona to raise funds for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson's Center.
Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky, USA as Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. In 1964, he changed his name to Muhammad Ali when he converted to Islam.
At the height of his career, Ali was nicknamed “The Giant” with a record of 56 wins, 37 by knockout and 5 losses.
He was a three-time heavyweight champion and was selected by Sports Illustrated magazine as the top male athlete of the 20th century.
