(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 7, in Vinh City, a conference was held to sign a coordination plan between the Standing Committee of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and religious organizations in the province on environmental protection and climate change response, period 2016 - 2020.

This is the content implemented under the coordination program between the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and religions on environmental protection and climate change response, period 2015 - 2020.

Attending the conference were members of the Provincial Party Executive Committee: Nguyen Van Huy - Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee; Vo Duy Viet - Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment; representatives of the leaders of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Education Committee, the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Committee; Priest Nguyen Dang Dien - Chairman of the Provincial Catholic Solidarity Committee; Buddhist nun Thich Nu Dieu Nhan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Buddhist Sangha Executive Committee.

Environmental pollution and climate change are some of the major challenges facing humanity today. Vietnam in general and Nghe An in particular are heavily affected by climate change, especially rising sea levels and extreme weather events such as heat waves, droughts, storms and floods, which have negative impacts on socio-economic development, as well as people's lives and health.

Faced with that reality, along with the whole society, the role, responsibility, and contribution of religious dignitaries, officials, monks, and followers in this work is very important.

At the conference, through discussion, the parties agreed on 5 coordination contents and clearly assigned specific responsibilities to each agency, unit, and organization; coordination methods, and implementation methods.

Accordingly, the parties will coordinate to compile and provide the religious community with relevant knowledge about the current state of environmental pollution and climate change; policies and laws of the Party and State, action programs of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and religious organizations on environmental protection and climate change response.

The parties committed to effectively implementing the plan for coordination in environmental protection and climate change response.

The parties will also coordinate to guide, train, and support religious communities and residents in self-rescue skills and help each other handle on-site unusual risks caused by storms, floods, flash floods, droughts, tsunamis, and rising sea levels.

Coordinate research, development and replication of models and typical residential areas that protect the environment, respond to climate change, and support religious communities and residents in implementing environmental protection measures.

The parties also coordinate to monitor State agencies, enterprises, organizations and individuals to comply with environmental protection laws.
