Nearly 76 billion VND to support people in drought and salinity-affected areas, where fish died

That information was given at a meeting on the damage situation and support for people affected by drought, saltwater intrusion, and unusual fish deaths, organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on May 12.

According to the report of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, drought and saltwater intrusion have caused damage of 6,392 billion VND to the people. The unusual death of aquatic products along the coast of many central provinces has also caused damage of hundreds of billions of VND. In this situation, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has issued decisions and allocated 7.5 billion VND to support 9 provinces severely damaged by drought and saltwater intrusion.

At the same time, support for fishermen facing difficulties in 4 provinces: Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, each province 1 billion VND. In localities, the Hanoi Fatherland Front supports 19 billion VND for 19 provinces affected by drought and salinity. The Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front supports 20 billion VND from the budget to the provinces affected by drought and salinity.... The total amount of money mobilized and allocated from the budget by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Fatherland Fronts of provinces and cities, member organizations is 75,932 billion VND to support people affected by drought, salinity intrusion, and unusual fish deaths.


Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan said that with the current situation, from now until the end of the year, fishermen's seafood will be difficult to sell well, and the difficulties will continue. He requested that member organizations continue to provide timely and appropriate support to help reassure people in difficult times.


In the immediate future, we need to support fishermen working on 12,000 fishing boats that have stopped fishing, help them have health insurance, and prevent their children from dropping out of school due to lack of income. For people in the Mekong Delta, we need to support at least 10% of households to ensure they have water tanks...


The Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations also agreed to have a project to coordinate and monitor the implementation of support from the Government, localities, and communities for affected people (within 1 month). On that basis, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will review and propose to the Government solutions to effectively support the people.
