Britney 3.0: The dramatic transformation

From a pop princess who shook the global music world, to a drug addict with mental problems, now Briney has become a happy mother of two adorable sons.

By the time Britney Spears returned to the Billboard Music Awards stage on May 22 to perform a medley of her hits, the effect it would have on the Internet was almost preordained: her eight-minute performance would mark the triumphant return of the once-forgotten pop princess.

In fact, Britney's comeback has been on the cards for the past few years, and the Billboard reappearance was just the final shot to get the victory of her latest album release in late 2016.

“She really came back to herself,” said designer Mark Zunino, who designed Britney’s fiery red outfit for the performance. “She looked amazing, her body was insane, and she had confidence,” he said.

Britney 3.0

With a spectacular comeback and a renewed musical style, Britney has now officially appeared with version 3.0. It is still Britney Spears, but she is no longer the pop princess she was nearly 20 years ago. She is also no longer the drunk, drug-addicted woman who appeared on the street with a shaved head and a disheveled appearance like nearly 10 years ago.

Britney of today is a happy mother of two young children, and one of the most successful female stars in the world. She is ranked alongside Madonna and Mariah Carey in terms of the number of albums that have ranked highest on Billboard.

Britney also ranked 10th in the top 20 richest women in the world entertainment industry with assets of more than 130 million USD and always ranked first in the media. Britney was recently recognized as ranked 5th in the top 10 richest divas in the world with total assets of 486 million USD.

In this comeback, Britney seems to have regained her footing in the mind, which is closely linked to her personal life. Media appearances, with children, community dance classes, or being in nature all show a more sedentary life for the once rebellious princess.

Besides her gradually stabilizing spiritual life, Britney's business projects are also growing, with more than 10 different business fields, ranging from lingerie, perfume, real estate to mobile game applications.

Dark times

To have the perfect life as present, the former pop princess has experienced many sufferings and failures. In the darkest time, she fell into addiction, her health and reputation declined, she was accused of having mental problems, lost the lawsuit and lost custody of her children.

At that point, Britney had lost virtually all control over herself. Under her court-ordered conservatorship (usually reserved for elderly, mentally ill, or terminally ill people who cannot care for themselves), Britney could not make personal or financial decisions without the approval of her father, Jamie Spears, and her attorney, Andrew M. Wallet.

Even under a plan to protect her vast personal fortune, even her simplest decisions, like buying a drink at Starbucks or a song on iTunes, are tracked and recorded in court records.

The whole drama started when she was at the peak of her career, with her decision to change her image from sweet and innocent to sexy and seductive in the album Britney (released in 2001). This change cost her a large number of fans.

In 2002, Britney broke up with her childhood sweetheart Justin Timberlake. The shock was so great that she was devastated and had consequences for her career, losing all the reputation she had worked so hard to build.

During those down years, Britney didn't release any albums and was nearly broke from overspending. After all-night parties, she blew through nearly $21 million and spent another $20 million after her marriage to dancer Kevin Federline.

Despite being known as a “gold digger” and being largely responsible for Britney’s downfall, dancer Kevin Federline still pushed her into the abyss once again in the fight for assets and child custody. Due to her tumultuous personal life, Britney once again lost and had to be treated in a mental hospital.

At the end of the dark days of her life, Britney met and fell in love with manager Jason Trawick. He was the one who stayed by her side, helped her take care of her children and rebuild her career. However, the happiness did not last long because only 2 years after proposing, Jason once again left Britney because he could not stand the singer's erratic temperament.

Now, after two failed marriages and on-and-off relationships, Britney Spears says she wants to devote all her time to her sons - Sean, 9, and Jayden, 8.

“If anyone knew the real Britney, they would know that she would rather be remembered as the amazing mother she was, than the artist she was,” said David Lucado, a former friend of Britney's.

“And if anyone sees her playing with her kids, they will know that her personal life is no longer subject to any court control,” he asserted.

Busy with work and happy with her small family, Britney now divides her time between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, where her boys are studying, and to perform weekly shows.

“I'm at the best point in my life,” Britney told People magazine. “I'm happier than I've ever been."
