The largest wooden-hulled boat in central Vietnam sank; two fishermen are missing.
While fishing in the Gulf of Tonkin, fisherman Nguyen Suong's wooden fishing boat sank. Five people were rescued, while two are missing.
On the afternoon of May 31st, Mr. Bui Tan Nguyen, Director of the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 2 (based in Da Nang), stated that the fishing vessel ĐNa 90604 TS belonging to fisherman Nguyen Suong (35 years old, residing in Nai Hien Dong ward, Son Tra district, Da Nang) sank at sea.
On the night of May 30th, this fishing vessel was fishing at 19.16 degrees North latitude - 105.53 degrees East longitude (in the Gulf of Tonkin) when the accident occurred. "There were 7 fishermen on board. 5 fishermen were rescued by the vessel ĐNa 90603, also owned by Mr. Sương. The remaining 2 fishermen are still missing," Mr. Nguyên said.

According to Mr. Nguyen, the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 1 (based in Hai Phong) is currently conducting rescue and search operations for the fishermen. All information is being monitored and supported by the center.
Mr. Nguyen stated that neither Center 1 nor Center 2 has yet determined the cause of the shipwreck.
The fishing vessel ĐNa 90604TS was launched in May 2014.With a power of 1,150 horsepower, measuring 21 m in length, 6 m in width, and 3.8 m in height, the vessel was built with an investment of 4.5 billion VND. Mr. Suong also built another vessel of the same type, numbered ĐNa 90603TS, with the same technical specifications for gillnet fishing.
These two vessels are wooden-hulled fishing boats.largest in Central Vietnam.Both ships were built based on the design of Thai fishing vessels and operate within the fishing fleet, providing logistical support for Da Nang fishermen in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa fishing grounds.
