Viettel General Director appointed as member of Central Military Commission

Major General Nguyen Manh Hung, General Director of Viettel Military Telecommunications Group, was appointed by the Politburo as a member of the Central Military Commission.

As designated by the Politburo, the Central Military Commission for the 2015-2020 term consists of 23 members with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as Secretary. General Ngo Xuan Lich, Minister of National Defense, holds the position of Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission.

The four people assigned as Standing Members of the Central Military Commission include: President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Director of the General Department of Politics Luong Cuong and Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh.

Major General Nguyen Manh Hung, General Director of Viettel Military Telecommunications Group, is one of the 17 members of the Military Commission. The other 16 members are Deputy Ministers of National Defense, representatives of the General Staff, General Department of Politics, military regions, military services, academies, etc.

Previously, at the 12th National Party Congress at the end of January, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung was elected as a member of the 12th Party Central Committee with 74% of the votes.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung was born in 1962, graduated with a degree in Telecommunications from the former Soviet Union, a Master's degree in Telecommunications from Australia, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the National Economics University. He is the one who contributed to making Viettel a powerful corporation, breaking the monopoly in the Vietnamese telecommunications market.

Viettel's leadership, including Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, has succeeded in its strategy of bringing telecommunications services to rural areas and popularizing mobile phones.

By the end of 2011, Viettel had the largest market share (over 40%) in the mobile telecommunications sector and ranked second in the fixed telecommunications sector (over 22%), with a revenue of over 5 billion USD and a pre-tax profit of nearly 1 billion USD. The group has an ambition to have a subscriber base equal to half of China's population by 2015, including 100 million domestically and 500 million abroad./.
