Contrary to his tough appearance when announcing his resignation, British Prime Minister Cameron could not hide his tears of sorrow when there were no cameras around, and facing close colleagues and friends.

Mr. Cameron announced his resignation on June 24.

British Prime Minister David Cameron tried to hold back tears as he spoke at his home in 10 Downing Street about his decision to resign. The announcement was made just one day after the historic Brexit vote to leave the EU. Cameron was the one who wanted Britain to stay in Europe but failed.

Multiple sources close to the Daily Mail said that as the door to 10 Downing Street closed, he turned to those close to him. One said: “It was very emotional. Everyone was crying, men and women, even the staff. Then Mr Cameron burst into tears.”

The night before, the British Prime Minister had been talking to close friends about the results of the most influential vote in modern Europe. Mr. Cameron was nervous but confident that he would win. Initial exit polls showed that 55% of the votes counted so far showed that Mr. Cameron would win.

Mr. Cameron suffered the greatest pain when his daughter Ivan died in 2009 from a serious illness.

However, early the next morning, the official result was announced: Britain left the EU. This was the third consecutive time a British prime minister had to resign because of controversial issues related to Brussels and the EU.

But Cameron has suffered far more since taking office. Treacherous friends and selfish colleagues have marred his political dreams, including his colleague Boris Johnson, the former London mayor who led the Brexit campaign and defeated Cameron in a historic vote.

The British Prime Minister should not have held the referendum. Many prestigious newspapers said that his career would never forget this "stain". Friends of Prime Minister Cameron said that this extremely shocking result came just one year after his resounding victory in the 2015 general election.

“I feel very sorry for him. It’s been a terrible time,” said a close friend of the British prime minister. “I told Cameron to postpone the referendum until December 2017, because it was a sure defeat. If the Remain side won, he would hate his party. If they lost, he would have to resign.”
