1. Portugal won the Euro 2016 championship

On the night of July 10, in the second extra time, thanks to a goal by player Eder, the Portuguese team won against the French team with a score of 1-0. This was also the first time Portugal won the European football championship.

2. PCA issues ruling on East Sea, declares Philippines won the case

On July 12, the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) issued a ruling that did not recognize China's historical rights within the nine-dash line and criticized its actions in the East Sea. The Philippines immediately welcomed the court's decision while China announced that it would not recognize the ruling. Many countries in the world, including the United States and Japan, agreed with the ruling and hoped that the parties would resolve the dispute peacefully.

3. Theresa May becomes the new British Prime Minister

On July 13, Mr. Cameron went to Buckingham Palace to submit his resignation to Queen Elizabeth II and Mrs. Theresa May officially became the second female Prime Minister of the UK. Mrs. May then reappointed almost all key positions in the British cabinet.

4. Attack in France on Bastille Day

On the night of July 14, a truck driver plowed into a group of people watching fireworks on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, killing 84 people, including 10 children, and injuring more than 200 others. The perpetrator was identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31, a Tunisian living in Nice. IS has claimed responsibility for the attack, but France has not found any evidence to support this.

5. Failed coup in Türkiye

On the night of July 15, a group of soldiers attempted a failed coup in the capital Ankara. The media reported that Colonel Muharrem Kose was the leader of the coup, but President Erdogan accused Fethulla Genlen of being the mastermind behind it. More than 265 people were killed and 1,440 others were injured in the incident.
