S400 appears in Crimea - Russia's strong move

The regiment of modern S400 "Triumph" missile complexes will be deployed on the Crimean peninsula from August 2016. According to Lieutenant Colonel Evgeny Oleynikov, Deputy Commander of the 18th Missile Regiment of the 31st Air Defense Missile Division, the new location of the regiment will be the city of Feodosiya.

The S-400 "Triumph" (NATO designation SA-21 Growler) is a new generation high- and medium-range air defense missile system capable of destroying all modern air attack vehicles.

According to military expert Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the magazine "National Defense" commented in an interview with Sputnik, today the nature of modern wars has fundamentally changed. The military focuses its main efforts on the field of air and space warfare, using high-precision weapons.

"The first strike in large-scale wars will apply high-precision weapons, air forces carrying guided missiles, cruise missiles launched from land, sea and air. This trend is clearly marked in all the campaigns that the US and its allies have recently participated in, such as the war activities in Iraq, Libya and Yugoslavia.

"Along with the development of military technical progress, this trend will increase. Air defense and anti-missile systems today are of key importance for a solid defense. Because of this, the Russian military leadership has decided to deploy the S400 missile system on the territory of Crimea to effectively protect the peninsula from any attack," said Igor Korotchenko.

According to military experts, the S400 "Triumph" is capable of dealing with all modern threats.

"We see that in recent months in the Black Sea there has been active naval activity by a number of NATO member countries, especially the United States, which previously did not have such a large-scale presence in the region.

Now, that is the new reality. It should be noted that modern US destroyers and cruisers are equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles and other types of high-precision weapons. The deployment of the S400 is to ensure the ability to respond, including to NATO's high-precision weapons attacks from the sea," said Mr. Igor Korotchenko.

According to military experts, the deployment of S-400 on the Crimean peninsula is a strong move by Russia. "This is a very strong military-political move by Russia. This way, the inviolability of Crimea's status as an inseparable part of Russia is guaranteed. The territory of Crimea is firmly protected against modern weapons, which means that the Black Sea Fleet base, important cities and infrastructure of Crimea are safely protected," Igor Korotchenko affirmed.
