'Pig bathing' profession on Highway 1A

Along National Highway 1A, passing through Dien Hong and Dien Yen communes (Dien Chau district), there are nearly a dozen advertising signs saying "Pig Bathing" growing close together on both sides of the road.

Mr. Mai Van Cat - the owner of the pig bathing facility said that he has been doing this job for 17 years. Seeing that pig bathing is simple and brings in more income than other jobs, he maintains the pig bathing job for long-distance trucks transporting pigs on the North - South route.

“The pig bathing job is most profitable during hot weather, because the pigs are transported from the South to the North for a long distance, so the pigs are thirsty and tired. Every day, my family bathes the pigs 7-8 times, each bath earns 50,000 VND, each day we earn 300,000-400,000 VND” - Mr. Cat shared.

Pig bathing job brings in 200-400 thousand VND/day

Ms. NT Anh in Dien Hong commune has been doing this job for 6 years now. Before, she mainly washed passenger cars. After a while, she saw many cars carrying pigs stopping by, so she also did this job. Bathing pigs is not hard work, it is simple and brings in income, so her family invested nearly 10 million VND to buy a high-capacity pump and a pump to switch to pig bathing.

She said that during hot weather, there are 5-7 cars carrying pigs to be bathed every day. If washing a passenger car, it takes about 2 hours, but bathing a pig only takes about 30 minutes. Her family earns 200,000 VND/day.

Bathing a pig is easier than washing a car.

Mr. Dinh Khai Nhat - a pig transport driver from Thanh Hoa province said: His truck carries nearly 100 pigs from Dong Nai to the northern provinces with border gates to China for consumption. From the South to the North, he has to stop at 20 facilities to bathe the pigs, the hotter the weather, the more bathing. The cost of paying for pig bathing is also 800 thousand VND - 1 million VND/trip.

It is known that on average, there are about 30-40 trucks carrying pigs on the North-South route passing through Dien Chau every day. Therefore, each facility will receive and bathe pigs about 5-10 trucks per day.

Dien Chau District is the locality with the most pig bathing service points in Nghe An with dozens of establishments. In addition, along Route 1A, there are also some other localities in the province that also do pig bathing such as: Quynh Luu, Hoang Mai Town.

Currently, localities with pig bathing profession are controlling environmental pollution from pig bathing facilities on National Highway 1A.
