Three students arrested in connection with the fatal assault on a drinking buddy.

Following a drinking argument, three students were allegedly involved in the beating death of a construction worker. Police arrested them while they were hiding in their hometown.

The police in Thu Duc District (Ho Chi Minh City) have arrested Nguyen Tien Thanh (27 years old, from Ha Nam province), Tran Huu Nghi (21 years old), and Dao Ngoc Thoa (28 years old), all from Gia Lai province, to investigate the crime of murder. The victim of the three suspects is Dang Quoc Thoai (31 years old, from Binh Duong province).

According to the investigating agency, the suspects initially confessed that on the evening of May 25th, all three went drinking in residential area 5, Linh Trung ward.

Seeing Thoai and Nguyen Thanh Phuong (43 years old, from An Giang province) drinking at the next table, Thanh brought a glass of beer over to invite the two construction workers to join him. During the conversation, upon learning that Thanh was a student, Phuong boasted that his child was studying at the University of Agriculture and Forestry.

Hearing this, Thanh suggested that Phuong call his son to come and have a drink with him. Since the construction worker couldn't reach his son, the student suggested they go back to the rented room together to find Giau (Phuong's son) and bring him out for drinks.

On the way, due to being drunk, everyone stopped at a noodle shop at the intersection of National Highway 1 and Road No. 17, opposite the gate of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry (in Linh Trung ward, Thu Duc district) for a late-night meal and continued to order more alcohol.

At the restaurant, the students got into a fight with two construction workers. During the chase, Thanh used his hands and feet to beat Thoai, causing his death on the spot. In a state of panic, Phuong fled the scene.

After committing the crime, the three students escaped on a motorbike. The next morning, upon learning that Thoai had died, all three fled back to their hometown.

On the night of June 3rd, police transported Thanh by plane from Ha Nam to Ho Chi Minh City. His two accomplices were also arrested to assist with the investigation.

Authorities said the suspects are all third and fourth-year university students.
