Taxi driver drove around in circles before strangling female student

On the afternoon of July 5, a leader of the Ha Tinh City Police (Ha Tinh) said that the unit is coordinating with the Criminal Police Department of Ha Tinh Police to jointly investigate the behavior of Nguyen Van Tien (26 years old), the main suspect in the murder and robbery case that occurred two days ago.

According to the investigation agency, Tien worked as a taxi driver in the province. On the afternoon of July 3, female supervisor Pham Thi Oanh (23 years old, working at Hue University of Education) went to Ha Tinh to supervise the national high school exam and waved at Tien to ask him to take her from Ha Tinh city to Thach Ha commune to attend church. Tien then returned to pick her up to go to a friend's house, and on the way back, he had the intention of killing and robbing her.

To carry out his plan, Tien drove around in circles until he reached Thach Trung commune (Thach Ha district), locked the car door, then used his hands to strangle Ms. Oanh and stole a handbag, a cell phone, and 250,000 VND.

To avoid detection by the authorities, Tien drove Oanh’s body to Su Bridge (Thach Ha District), about 5 km from the scene, and dumped the body. Tien then went to another river, threw away the relevant documents, and left the scene.

After a day of losing contact with supervisor Oanh, Hue University of Education reported to Ha Tinh City Police. Determining that the victim had hired a taxi before the accident, many working groups summoned a number of suspects, including Tien.

After many hours of struggle, Tien admitted to killing the female supervisor with the intention of robbing her. Tien said he owed his friend a few hundred thousand dong so he robbed her to pay off the debt.

Police are strengthening the case to prosecute Tien.
