Opening of the first session of the 14th National Assembly, electing the country's senior leaders

The first session of the 14th National Assembly will open this morning (July 20) at the National Assembly House, Hanoi and is expected to close on July 29, 2016. One of the key contents of the session is that the National Assembly will focus on reviewing, discussing and deciding on high-ranking State personnel issues.

This morning, after the preparatory session to discuss and vote on the agenda, Chairwoman of the 13th National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan will deliver the opening speech and chair the sessions until the National Assembly elects the Chairwoman of the 14th National Assembly.

General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong will speak.

The focus of the first session of the 14th National Assembly is to decide on high-level State personnel.

According to the program, Vice Chairwoman of the 13th National Assembly, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the National Election Council Tong Thi Phong presented the Summary Report on the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2020 term; the results of confirming the qualifications of National Assembly deputies.

Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan presented a report synthesizing opinions and recommendations of voters nationwide in the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils for the 2016-2021 term.

This afternoon, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan will, on behalf of the 13th National Assembly Standing Committee, present a report on the number of Vice Chairmen and members of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Next, the National Assembly delegations will meet to elect the Head and Deputy Head of the delegation and discuss the expected number of Vice Chairmen and members of the National Assembly Standing Committee./.
