Speaking to hundreds of supporters at the presidential office, Mr. Erdogan stressed that those who only worry about the fate of those who supported the coup instead of Türkiye's democracy cannot be friends of this country.

According to Mr. Erdogan, the attitude of many Western countries and officials towards the recent coup attempt in Türkiye was “shameful in the name of democracy.” He also criticized some American officials for siding with the terrorist plotters.

Mr. Erdogan even criticized US Commander Joseph Votel, head of US Central Command, saying that he was siding with the coup plotters, after Mr. Votel previously expressed concern that Türkiye's arrest of several military generals could harm military cooperation between the two countries.

Recently, many Western countries have condemned the failed coup attempt in Türkiye, but at the same time criticized the Turkish Government for carrying out campaigns to clean up the government apparatus by arresting many officials, military generals and many other elements in society such as judges, prosecutors, teachers, etc. in this country.

It is estimated that more than 66,000 government employees have been fired, more than 50,000 passports have been revoked. About 40% of Türkiye's military generals have been dismissed after the recent failed coup in this country.

In a recent response, Mr. Votel spoke out against President Erdogan’s criticism, calling it regrettable and inaccurate. He also emphasized that Türkiye has been a “special and important” partner of the United States for many years and he looks forward to this partnership being able to promote the fight against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) organization./.
