According to China Daily, Ms. Zhang, who lives in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on June 27. The baby boy weighed nearly 3 kg and was able to return home with his mother, who is the same age as her, and his 66-year-old father, on July 5.

Due to her advanced age and inability to conceive naturally, Ms. Zhang decided to seek artificial insemination (IVF) and became pregnant in November last year. When people learned that Ms. Zhang was planning to have a child at the age of over 60, many thought she was abnormal.

"When I first saw her in the hospital, I thought this old lady must have brought someone here for a pregnancy check-up," her obstetrician, Ms. He Jing, recalled.

The doctor, who has many years of experience in the profession, also admitted that this was the first time she witnessed a woman older than her pregnant. Although the risks for elderly pregnant women during pregnancy and childbirth are very high, Dr. He still tried his best to help Ms. Zhang fulfill her wish.

Ms. Zhang shared that she had her own reasons for deciding to have a child at this age. Previously, she and her husband had a daughter and lived happily. However, two years ago, her 30-year-old daughter died during childbirth, leaving the whole family with endless grief and sorrow.

Zhang and her husband never gave up hope of becoming parents again. When they learned that this dream could be achieved through IVF, they were determined to make it happen. However, the process of conceiving was not easy, and premature birth and miscarriage rates are common in cases of older mothers.

Ms. Zhang had suffered two bleeding episodes during her pregnancy, but fortunately, medical professionals were able to save the baby until 36 weeks. The baby was born via cesarean section. During the delivery, doctors had to remove Ms. Zhang’s uterus to prevent excessive blood loss.
