(Baonghean.vn) - Throughout his 17 years as Party Secretary of Hamlet 16, Quynh Tan mountainous commune, Quynh Luu district, Comrade Ho Van Thanh has implemented many effective and creative methods to promote and encourage the people to actively engage in production, effectively achieving socio-economic development goals and contributing to accelerating poverty reduction in the locality.

Village 16 in the mountainous commune of Quỳnh Tân previously experienced slow economic development because the majority of its inhabitants were engaged in purely agricultural production and were entirely dependent on nature. Furthermore, the village was located 5 km from the commune center, meaning it lacked electricity, causing significant difficulties for its residents.

Notably, the entire village has over 100 households, but they live interspersed with Catholic residents of villages 12 and 13 in Quynh Trang commune, Hoang Mai district. While the land of village 16 is managed by Hoang Mai commune, the people are under the jurisdiction of Quynh Tan commune.

This paradoxical situation has prevented local households from obtaining land ownership certificates, made it difficult to separate households, and hindered access to loans for economic development. As a result, poverty continues to plague the people in this region. Faced with this reality, Comrade Ho Van Thanh, as the Party branch secretary, constantly pondered and sought positive ways to improve the quality of life for the people.

First, he mobilized the people, with each household contributing 540,000 dong to bring electricity to the village, then formed teams to cast poles and do the work themselves.

Furthermore, in Party branch meetings, he promoted democracy and strengthened internal unity to issue and implement resolutions on socio-economic development. Above all, he knew how to foster the pioneering and exemplary spirit of each Party member, leading the way in implementing economic reforms and development so that the people could follow suit.

However, changing people's traditional mindsets and practices is not easy, so regardless of day or night, sun or rain, he tirelessly went from household to household to promote suitable production methods such as diversifying crop and livestock structures, developing service industries, and exporting labor.

Thanks to the comrade's persistent and gradual approach, the people have become aware of the necessity of changing their mindset regarding local occupations.

Thanks to Comrade Thanh, the economy of Village 16 is now very developed. The village has 3 trucks, 3 multi-functional tractors, 3 large CD-type timber processing machines, over 10 households selling general merchandise, 7 civil carpentry workshops, 50% of households raising cattle for commercial purposes (an average of 3-4 cows), 80% of women trading agricultural products at the market according to the season, and 22 hectares of pine forest for resin extraction. The average per capita income has reached 22 million VND/person/year, an increase of 11 million VND compared to 1999.

Comrade Ho Van Thanh said: “I took on the role of Party branch secretary starting in 1999. At that time, the village faced many difficulties, with each household having only 360 square meters of land for rice and other crops. To develop the village, every month I, together with the Party branch committee, formulated correct and appropriate resolutions, which were then discussed and agreed upon by the Party branch collective before implementation. At the same time, we promoted the movement of Party members leading the way, with the people following suit, in the economic and social development sector so that the people could see and follow. As a result, the people of Village 16 are now very dynamic in developing diverse industries and services.”

Regarding household economics, Comrade Thanh was quick to apply scientific and technological advancements. He researched online and chose to raise pigs on biological bedding. Based on the existing pig pens, he renovated them and each year raises 50 fattening pigs and 2 breeding sows.

At a cost of only 31,000 VND/m2, including sawdust, rice husks, and probiotics, raising pigs this way saves Comrade Thanh's family a lot of effort and time. They don't have to bathe the pigs, clean the pens, and only need to remove manure once a year without causing environmental pollution. Furthermore, the pigs are healthy, develop uniformly, are less prone to disease, and gain weight well.

Besides raising pigs, he also raises cattle and deer. Thanks to his proactive approach to economic development, his family earns over 250 million VND in profit each year. Recognizing the high efficiency of the biological bedding pig farming model, he encouraged other households in the village to adopt this method.

At the same time, Comrade Thanh has also held the position of Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Tan commune for the past 10 years. Therefore, in each Executive Committee meeting, Comrade Thanh has advised the superiors to direct the branches to disseminate information to their members to expand the practice throughout the commune in order to ensure environmental protection in livestock farming. As a result, Quynh Tan commune now has 4 models of livestock farming using biological bedding.

During his years as Party branch secretary, Comrade Ho Van Thanh always strived to dedicate himself to the organization and the well-being of the people, earning their trust and affection. With his innovative and creative leadership style, the village's progress has resulted in the Party branch achieving the "clean and strong" status for many consecutive years, ranking among the top villages in the commune in all aspects.
