England and Russia could be eliminated from the Euro

Violence between fans outside the stadium resulted in two teams in Group B being warned.

The European football governing body has said England and Russia could be disqualified immediately if they do not end days of unrest caused by their fans. The Russian Football Union faces disciplinary action after footage showed their fans attacking England supporters in the stands at the Velodrome.

UEFA has confirmed that Russian fans will be prosecuted for disorder, racism and the use of flares. The organisation also said security would be further stepped up.

The British government has confirmed it has received a request to send extra police to assist host nation France in Roy Hodgson's side's next match in Lens.

Witnesses said the riot in the stands began when flares were lit by Russian fans after the home team equalised 1-1 in the final minutes. A group of fans then climbed over the fence to the English section and the fight began.

Russian fans attacked English spectators, some of whom had to climb over fences to escape. On the morning of June 11, a fight broke out between Russian and English fans and a group of local youths in Marseille, forcing the police to use force to restore order. Many fans were later hospitalized with blood.
