(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An is a province with a large number of pollution spots due to residual plant protection chemicals in the country. Recently, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment has advised the Provincial People's Committee to focus on and proactively implement Decision 1946 and the National Target Program on overcoming pollution and improving the environment.

From 2011 to June 2016, Nghe An province conducted 31 investigation and survey projects to determine the scope of pollution levels for 235 pesticide residue locations.

The results of the investigation, survey, and determination of the scope and level of pollution are the basis for implementing treatment projects. Up to now, the province has implemented 20 projects (22 locations) to treat environmental pollution caused by pesticide residues. Of which: 07 projects have completed acceptance and returned the site to the locality, 05 projects have completed treatment works, 08 projects are in the process of implementation.

The total cost of the projects is 163 billion VND, of which the central government has supported 58 billion VND; the local government has arranged 39 billion VND.

The projects have basically achieved their set goals, treated environmental pollution according to local land use purposes, and raised people's awareness in preventing environmental pollution caused by residual pesticides.

However, according to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the regulations in Decision No. 58/2008/QD-TTg dated April 29, 2008 of the Prime Minister on targeted support from the state budget to thoroughly handle, overcome pollution and minimize environmental degradation for a number of subjects in the public sector, the level of support from the Central Government is only 50% of the treatment cost (not including consulting, compensation, site clearance, monitoring, environmental supervision, etc.). Meanwhile, the number of pollution spots in the province is very large, requiring a very large source of treatment funding, the provincial budget is still limited, and the budget is not proactive, so the number of environmental pollution spots due to residual pesticides in the province is still large, causing environmental pollution affecting the health, daily life and livelihood of the people.
