(Baonghean.vn) - Promoting the tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers, veteran Vo Van Thu, in Xuan Loi hamlet, Van Loi commune (Quy Hop) is always diligent and hard-working in labor and production, rising to become a typical household with good economic performance.

In 1983, after returning from the army, disabled veteran Vo Van Thu chose a farmland in Van Loi commune, Quy Hop district and settled down here. In the early days in the new land, his family's life was very difficult and deprived. At first, in the reclaimed land, his family mainly grew corn and peanuts, but the income was not much. When a sugar factory came to develop the raw material area, he planted 2 hectares of sugarcane. On average, each year the sugarcane output reached 120 to 150 tons, with revenue reaching around 120 million VND.

To increase his income, he took advantage of agricultural by-products and planted 8 more acres of elephant grass to raise cows, goats, and draft buffalo. Currently, his family has more than 20 goats, at peak times there were nearly 100, and nearly 10 buffaloes. Growing sugarcane and raising livestock has brought his family a stable income of nearly 300 million VND per year.

Not stopping there, in 2014, after researching neighboring localities, Mr. Thu boldly converted an area of 1 hectare of ineffective trees to grow oranges for higher income. After more than 2 years of care, the orange garden has developed very well, promising to bring a large source of income for his family in the coming years. In addition, Mr. Thu's family also planted 50 red-fleshed dragon fruit trees, which have now yielded fruit.
