The way out of poverty of Thai women in Mon Son
(Baonghean.vn)- Starting from nothing, Ms. Ngan Thi Sen (Thai ethnic group) and her husband in Khe Lo village, Mon Son commune (Con Cuong) determined to invest in livestock development to escape poverty and become rich legitimately.
Born into a farming family with difficult circumstances, in 2001, Ms. Ngan Thi Sen started a family with Mr. Ngan Van Nao. After 1 year, the couple moved out with nothing, in a thatched house without any valuable furniture. The agricultural land was small, only 1 sao of rice field was allocated, so poverty continued to cling to the family.

Many nights Ms. Sen tossed and turned, thinking about how to escape poverty, it was the source of motivation that urged her to overcome difficulties and hardships. In 2003, through the Women's Union, she boldly borrowed 30 million VND from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to develop livestock farming.
With the motto of short-term profit for long-term gain, she invested in raising sows to obtain breeding stock for commercial pigs. While raising pigs, Ms. Sen also took the opportunity to participate in technical training courses and learn from the experiences of other women in the village.

Thanks to her diligence and hard work, the first batch of pigs brought Sen's family an income of over 10 million VND. Excited with the results, she decided to expand her livestock farming. Currently, her family has 2 sows for breeding, each batch raises 15 pigs for meat, on average 3 batches are sold each year, after deducting expenses, the profit is over 50 million VND.

The family economy is increasingly stable, thanks to which Ms. Ngan Thi Sen's family escaped poverty in 2008. After having a small amount of savings, she continued to invest in developing fattening buffalo and cows, raising goats, hill chickens and digging ponds to raise fish. Up to now, there are always 7-8 buffaloes and cows in the barn; a herd of nearly 10 goats; a herd of over 50 chickens and over 300m2fish pond.

Not stopping there, in 2015, Ms. Sen boldly bought 4 deer for 40 million VND from Nam Dan district to try raising. Up to now, the deer have been cut 1-2 times a year, each time giving 3-4 taels of velvet, earning 10 million VND. As the first person to implement the deer raising model in Con Cuong, Ms. Sen said that raising deer is highly profitable but also risky, requires compliance with care techniques, and the price of breeding animals is high.

Thus, from being a poor household, with the most difficult economic life in the village, but with the will to rise up, Ms. Ngan Thi Sen's family has successfully built a comprehensive livestock model with an income of over 100 million VND/year.
Ms. Sen shared: “Remembering the hard times, when my husband and I first moved out, I did not dare to think that we would have the property we have today. I am always grateful to the Women's Union for creating conditions and supporting capital so that my family could have the opportunity to escape poverty.”
