The explosion took place at 10:12 p.m. in front of a restaurant in the city of Ansbach, not far from an outdoor music festival with 2,500 participants.

The event was interrupted by the explosion and police evacuated everyone. Police and ambulances attended the explosion and cordoned off the surrounding area.

The explosion killed one person and injured 12 others, three of them seriously. Michael Siefener, spokesman for the Bavarian Interior Ministry, said it was a deliberate explosion.

According to police, the man killed in the explosion was "probably the attacker" and there was "no evidence of additional attackers."

German authorities confirmed that the explosion was an attack carried out by a 27-year-old Syrian asylum seeker who had been in Germany for more than two years and was seeking asylum. He had also attempted suicide twice and had received psychological treatment.

Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann is on his way to the scene. A press conference is scheduled for 3 a.m. on July 25./.
