Thanks to their strong global presence, K-pop group Big Bang has been chosen as a key element in the campaign to promote the new slogan "Creative Korea".

The above information was announced by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on August 2.

"Big Bang will promote the 'Creative Korea' brand worldwide as a 'Creative Icon'," the ministry said in a statement. "The group will have a great impact on promoting Korea's image."

Created ahead of the 2002 World Cup jointly hosted by South Korea and Japan, the country's "Dynamic Korea" brand was replaced last month after a nationwide poll was conducted.

Since the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 5-member group will take on a new responsibility as Korea's brand ambassadors until the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Big Bang, who debuted in 2006, is an iconic K-pop group that has captured the attention of the world. To celebrate their 10th anniversary, the band has held a series of concerts and exhibitions in recent months. Their three-day tour of Japan last month attracted 165,000 people, according to their management company, YG Entertainment.

Big Bang is preparing for an upcoming multimedia exhibition in Seoul from August 5 to October 30, and for a performance at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on August 20.
