Erdogan accuses the West of supporting a coup plot

Western countries supported rebels in the coup attempt in Türkiye, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said.

"The West supported terrorists and those who attempted a coup in Türkiye. This was done by foreign powers, the script was written outside Türkiye," Erdogan said at an economic forum in Ankara.

He noted that no Western leader has come to Türkiye to express solidarity with the Turkish people at this crucial time.

"We received no support from our friends, neither during the coup nor after. And I ask: Does the West support terrorism or not? Are Western countries on the side of democracy or on the side of the coupists? Unfortunately, the West is supporting terrorism and is on the side of the coupists," Erdogan added.
