Takata airbags - the fear of new car buyers
Even with new airbags, the car is still at risk of having an error, even newly sold cars still have this error.
A report by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to the US Senate Committee said the following models used defective airbags from Takata but were sold on the market, including the 2016 Audi TT, 2016-2017 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, 2016 Volkswagen CC, Automotive said.

That’s not all. The report also said that 2.1 million airbags that had been replaced in previously defective vehicles still had to be replaced again. The new airbags did not contain a drying agent to prevent the ammonium nitrate from decomposing, which could cause the airbags to explode and shoot metal fragments at people in the car.
That’s not all. There are about 580,000 airbags waiting to be installed in vehicles, and they also don’t have the same desiccant. But the temporary reassurance is that these airbags need a long time to be affected by high humidity, which can lead to the decomposition of ammonium nitrate.
Carscoops commented that this is clearly not a problem that can be solved overnight but will take many years. In the worst case, this time is about 6 years.
This information is just a small balm for customers involved in this matter, those who recently bought a car but discovered the airbags were faulty, or customers who had their Takata airbags replaced since the previous recall but the defect is still there.
