In the inspection plan sent by the General Department of Environment to the provinces of Quang Ninh, Lai Chau and Yen Bai, there is the Muong Thanh hotel system of tobacco tycoon Le Thanh Than.

Mr. Nguyen The Dong - Deputy Director General of the General Department of Environment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) has just signed a document to send to the People's Committees of Quang Ninh, Lai Chau, Yen Bai provinces, regarding the inspection of the progress of implementing projects to thoroughly handle pollution that have been funded by the central budget.

The inspection content at the units is mainly compliance with the provisions of the law on environmental protection. In the list of inspected units is the Muong Thanh hotel system of tycoon Le Thanh Than.

In Quang Ninh, tobacco tycoon Le Thanh Than owns two Muong Thanh hotels. In Lai Chau, Mr. Than has owned one hotel since the early days of his business. The entire hotel chain is managed by Mr. Than's eldest daughter, Le Thi Hoang Yen.

Talking to Zing.vn, Mr. Pham Trong Nghia, Director of Muong Thanh Hotel - Lai Chau said: "Currently, there are no inspection results. They are expected to announce them at the end of August. I think Muong Thanh Lai Chau Hotel does not have any major problems, mainly because the hotel was built a long time ago and is degraded."

Particularly, Muong Thanh Quang Ninh Hotel, invested by Thanh Nien Quang Ninh Trade and Tourism Joint Stock Company, started construction in 2011, was accused of not having a construction permit, but was still built incorrectly compared to the master plan approved by the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee in terms of boundaries, area and construction density.

Despite the above violations, on December 30, 2013, this hotel was still inaugurated and put into use.

Many projects in other provinces of the tobacco tycoon were also accused of a series of major violations.

On June 11, 2015, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province ordered the suspension of construction of the 48-storey Muong Thanh - Khanh Hoa project in Nha Trang City. The reason is that the actual construction area, total site plan and positioning of the construction pillar system of the project have changed compared to the design drawings attached to the issued Construction Permit.

At the end of 2014, the Muong Thanh Saigon project at 8A Mac Dinh Chi, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City was also suspended due to the expiration of its construction permit.

On December 20, 2013, the People's Committee of Dong Ve Ward, Thanh Hoa City, made a record to suspend construction with Private Construction Enterprise No. 1 - Dien Bien Province for building a hotel without a construction permit.

Another project of the tobacco tycoon that was also suspended is the Coco Mui Ne luxury resort project (Ham Tien ward, Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan). In this project, the investor was discovered to have built 3 times the licensed area.

It is known that the project was granted a construction permit for 4 floors (15.5 m), but Muong Thanh Group built it up to 7 floors (21.5 m).

Recently, Hanoi Fire Prevention and Fighting Police discovered 38 constructions that did not comply with fire prevention and fighting regulations; including 15 constructions of Mr. Le Thanh Than./.
