African rhino horn worth billions, hidden in milk carton

A male passenger who had just landed at Tan Son Nhat airport was followed by authorities and many unusual things were discovered in his luggage.

On July 31, the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch said that it had just coordinated with other units to discover smuggled goods brought back from Africa by a 42-year-old male passenger, a Vietnamese citizen.

Accordingly, the male passenger on the flight from Doha had just landed at Tan Son Nhat airport. The airport customs, together with the Anti-smuggling Control Team, the Economic Police (PC46) and the Anti-smuggling Crime Police Department (C74 - Ministry of Public Security) stopped and inspected the luggage.

African rhino horn chopped up

Upon inspection, four African rhino horns were found cut into small pieces and cleverly hidden in milk cartons carried along with personal luggage. According to initial investigation information, the above mentioned African rhino horns have an estimated value of about 4.5 billion VND on the open market.

These are goods banned from import by the Government according to the list of wild animals and plants under the management of the CITES Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

The case is currently under investigation.
