JAICA and Nafoods Company engineers conducted a field survey at the passion fruit garden of Mr. Dinh Cong Tam's family in Chau Thon commune, Que Phong.

According to engineers from Nafoods Food and Beverage Joint Stock Company, the area that the JICA delegation surveyed this time included a number of lemon garden owners in Tri Le and Chau Thon communes. Based on the field survey and learning about investment and care methods, the delegation took samples and recorded the growth indicators of passion fruit trees and fruits. If guaranteed, they will support science and technology and capital to produce according to Japanese processes, then if the fruit products meet standards, they will be sent to Japan for consumption.

Passion fruit is a difficult plant to grow. If the weather is sunny, it must be watered twice a day.

Representatives of Que Phong district leaders as well as owners of passion fruit gardens said: Although it is very difficult, the locality will try to comply with the clean and safe passion fruit production process recommended by experts. This is a great opportunity for Que Phong passion fruit to affirm its brand.

Currently, Que Phong is the only area in Nghe An that can grow passion fruit, with an area of about 250 hectares. Every year, Que Phong produces nearly 1,000 tons of passion fruit and has produced and is self-sufficient in varieties.

The process of looking after and caring for the tree requires regular leaf cutting and pruning of bad shoots for the fruit to grow well.

Previously, Que Phong people tried growing a passion fruit variety that was yellow when ripe, but because the fruit was highly acidic, they have now switched to growing a passion fruit variety originating from Taiwan. This new variety has purple fruit when ripe, and the juice is sweeter and more fragrant, so it is increasingly popular in the market./.
