Air Algerie plane that disappeared from radar returns to airport

An Air Algerie plane en route from Algeria to Marseille was forced to turn around over the Mediterranean Sea and return to its departure airport due to technical problems, a source from the Air Algerie airline confirmed to Sputnik.

"The plane disappeared half an hour after taking off at an altitude of 7,000 meters over the Mediterranean Sea, but half an hour ago it returned to the Algerian international airport due to technical problems," the source said. "Due to technical problems, the crew decided to return and informed the air traffic controllers at the Algerian airport."

Earlier, media reported that Air Algerie passenger flight AH1020 disappeared from radar screens. According to the website Flightradar24, the plane circled over an island in the Mediterranean Sea and disappeared.
