The theme song for the Rio Olympic opening ceremony is causing a sensation.

Following the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the number of views for the song "The Girl from Ipanema" increased by 1,200%. This song was used as background music during supermodel Gisele Bundchen's performance at the opening ceremony.

Specifically, the song received over 40,000 views per day, a dramatic increase compared to the 3,000 views per day before the Olympic opening ceremony.

"The Girl from Ipanema" is the most famous Brazilian song in international music. Composer Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote this song in 1962 as a tribute to the girl he loved as she left Ipanema Beach, one of Rio's most beautiful beaches.

In 1964, "The Girl from Ipanema" became a hit when Astrud Gilberto performed the song in English. A year later, the song won a Grammy Award.
