US announces joint military exercises with South Korea despite North Korea's warnings

(Baonghean.vn) - On July 30, US Army Secretary Eric Fanning announced that annual military exercises between the US and South Korea will continue this August, despite North Korea's warning of serious consequences if the US and South Korea continue to conduct joint exercises.

Earlier on July 28, a senior North Korean official warned that the nature of the joint US-South Korea exercises had turned into an open act of aggression and affirmed that Pyongyang was ready for a war.

Mr. Fanning, who is in Malaysia as part of a regional tour, rejected the North Korean claim, stressing that the US has conducted joint military exercises with South Korea for decades and that such activities contribute to peace and stability in the region.
