Looking for typical Quang Trung high-rise citizen

(Baonghean.vn) - "If I had to choose 10 individuals, I would have to think for a long time, but if I had to choose only one person, it would be none other than Dr. Phan Huy Tu in area C2" - Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang, an early resident of building B5, currently working at the Vinh City People's Committee, affirmed.

In the writing about Quang Trung memories, in addition to the events, I really wanted to find and select a few typical faces of a residential area with more than 10,000 people. It took me more than 6 months, meeting hundreds of people who used to live in the high-rise building, and I only had about a dozen influential figures in the Quang Trung community.

That is poet Minh Hue with the famous poem "Tonight Uncle Ho does not sleep", that is teacher, PhD in Mathematics Le Thong Nhat, poet Duong Huy, national team coach Nguyen Huu Thang, family of player Van Sy...

There is a rather strange thing, if ranked in order, many people agree to put Dr. Phan Huy Tu at number 1, the list of typical citizens of Quang Trung. Now he is living in Redmond city, Washington state, USA and working for the famous Microsoft Corporation, but the image of the student of Phan Boi Chau specialized school who won the Silver Medal at the 1991 International Mathematical Olympiad (Sweden), the first to win an international prize in his home province, is still cherished by the people of C2.

In fact, the young man from Yen Thanh, born in the month of Than, year of Dan (September 1974), almost had no luck with multi-storey houses. In 1982, house C2 was the last house in the Quang Trung multi-storey house complex that the German Democratic Republic agreed to extend the Cooperation Protocol to complete and hand over to Vinh city before withdrawing to the country.

In the 1981-1982 school year, Phan Boi Chau Specialized School was moved to 48 Le Hong Phong. Because both his father and mother taught at Phan School, and with high scores, in 1983, Phan Huy Tu's family was given apartment number 132, C2 Quang Trung. Then, that apartment of only about 30 square meters became a "red address" of Nghe An's education sector.

Teacher Phan Huy Tuan - Vice Principal of the school was recognized as an excellent teacher. Even more proud, teacher Tuan (teaching Literature) and teacher Nguyen Minh Ly (Physics) have become symbols of wholehearted passion for teaching, marital loyalty, and children's success in the minds of generations of students, friends and colleagues.

The eldest sister, Phan Thuc Anh (born December 1970), was an excellent student who was retained as a lecturer at the National Economics University. The elder sister, Phan Quynh Huong (born October 1972), in 1990, was the valedictorian of the Banking Academy with 27 points, including 10 points in Math. Up to now, Phan Boi Chau High School has continuously had students winning international awards, but at that time, Phan Huy Tu was the first student to make Nghe An and the beloved Phan School famous.

Before that, two other seniors, Dinh Van Dung (Physics, interestingly enough, later became Tu's brother-in-law) and Doan An Hai (Math), were both on the Vietnamese national team for international competitions but had not won any prizes. Although Nghe An is a famous land of learning, the Golden Board still does not have the names of studious children from Nghe An, while Lam Son School (Thanh Hoa) continuously has students winning international prizes, which makes not only teachers in the education sector but also provincial leaders anxiously wait.

Only when the good news from Sweden flew back did the joy of the school, the apartment building and the whole province burst out... After that, Truong Ba Tu won the Silver Medal at the International Math Olympiad (1993), Nguyen Canh Hao won the Silver Medal at the International Math Olympiad (1997)...

Recalling Mr. Dinh Van Thong, who was then the principal of Phan Boi Chau school, shared: "You make me look a few years younger", the happiness of a teacher is sometimes very simple. And Mr. Phu, former Secretary of the Quang Trung Sub-region Party Committee at that time, was proud wherever he went: Quang Trung, oh my, has the first student to win an international prize, how amazing!

That is our Quang Trung. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, everyone is busy with their own business and sometimes we accidentally pass each other. But surely no one forgets anyone, especially those who made that multi-storey building become the symbol of Vinh city at one time!
