Cambodian authorities have just arrested and deported 25 Chinese people for organizing illegal online gambling and not having work permits.

The head of the investigation agency of the General Department of Immigration - Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, General Ouk Hay Seyla, said yesterday that the investigation and arrest campaign of the above group of subjects was carried out by the General Department of Immigration in coordination with the Phnom Penh City Police and the Phnom Penh Court.

Among the 25 Chinese nationals arrested and deported from Cambodia were four women, and most of them did not have work permits - a mandatory requirement for foreigners living and working in Cambodia.

Last June, Cambodian authorities also arrested 15 mainland Chinese and 12 Taiwanese on suspicion of running a telephone scam ring to extort money from victims in China.

Since October 2015, Cambodia has deported more than 200 Chinese citizens in a crackdown on online fraud.
