Robbers arrested for holding knife to girl's neck and committing crime in broad daylight

This morning (July 27), the Department of Investigation Police on Social Order Crimes (PC45) of Ho Chi Minh City Police said that it had just handed over four subjects: Nguyen Ngoc Nhan, alias "Tin" (born in 1995, residing in Tan Phu District), Trinh Van Quoc (born in 1982, residing in Binh Tan District), Tu Dat Minh, alias "Quay" (born in 1996, residing in Tan Phu District) and Doan Hoang Hiep (born in 1985, residing in District 11) to investigate the acts of "property robbery" and "snatching property".

On May 18, 2016, a clip was circulated on social media recording an extremely daring robbery that had just occurred in District 10. Specifically, at around 2:35 p.m. on May 17, a young man came to the house of Ms. Vu Thi Hang (23 years old), located in an alley on To Hien Thanh Street (Ward 14, District 10) pretending to be a customer asking to buy glasses.

While Ms. Hang was not paying attention, this subject suddenly used one hand to choke and cover her mouth, the other hand pulled out a knife and held it to the victim's neck to steal her Iphone 6s phone, then ran to an accomplice's car, started the engine and waited to escape.

However, the victim managed to run out and struggle, causing the two robbers to fall onto the street. At the same time, hearing Ms. Hang's screams, the surrounding people ran out, forcing the two robbers to leave the Vision motorbike with license plate 59F1 451.56 at the scene and run to their accomplice's motorbike to escape with the stolen phone.

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City Police Department directed Team 3 (Special Criminal Task Force) of PC45 Department to coordinate with District 10 Police to investigate and quickly arrest the perpetrators.

Through verification, the police discovered that the car the robbers left at the scene belonged to Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Lien (born in 1994, residing in District 3). Ms. Lien said that the car had just been shocked by 4 people using electric batons, causing her to fall down, in order to rob the car, which happened at 5:00 a.m. on May 17, 2016. Before running away, they also pulled out a sword and threatened to slash Ms. Lien, making her pale with fear and not daring to say a word.

Although the images from the camera and the victims' reports were quite blurry, using professional measures, the special detectives of PC45 quickly identified the perpetrators.

On the evening of July 25, while Nguyen Ngoc Nhan was traveling on Kenh Tan Hoa Street (Tan Phu District), he was arrested by detectives. During the struggle, Nhan confessed that he, Quoc, Minh, Hiep and a subject named Bao (unknown background) had committed the two extremely daring robberies.

By the evening of July 26, the police arrested the gang members Quoc, Minh, and Hiep and seized two homemade machetes and two motorbikes related to the robberies. Bao is currently being pursued by the police.

At the police station, they confessed that in addition to the two robberies above, they also committed three other robberies. Specifically, at around 1:00 p.m. on May 5, 2016, Nhan pretended to be a delivery man and pulled out a knife to control a girl in Binh Tri Dong Ward, Binh Tan District, so that he and his accomplices could rob her of two sets of ximen bracelets, a gold ring, a necklace, a Samsung S6 phone, and a Vespa Piagio with license plate 59K1-744.13. After that, they parked the motorbike at Binh Tan Hospital's parking lot and sold the other assets to get money to share and spend on crystal meth.

On the evening of May 19, 2016, Nhan went with Quoc and Minh on a motorbike on Kenh C Street (Tan Nhut Commune, Binh Chanh District) to find someone to rob. Then, they discovered a girl riding a white Lead motorbike, so they blocked the motorbike. Minh used an electric baton to shock the girl, causing her to fall, then the gang stole the motorbike and escaped. They then pawned the motorbike to a man named Phong (unknown background) for 10 million VND to continue their partying.

At the end of May 2016, Quoc discussed with Nhan how to stage a robbery of an iPhone 6 from someone who was selling it online. Accordingly, Quoc pretended to ask to buy it and made an appointment with the victim to meet at a coffee shop near the Ha Tien Cement Factory.

When the victim was off guard, Nhan snatched the phone and ran to his car, started the engine and escaped. The phone was then sold for 6 million VND and divided among themselves.
