How dirty are plastic water bottles?
New research shows that reused plastic water bottles contain an average of 300,000 bacterial colonies per square centimetre, dirtier than a dog bowl.
"Drinking water from a reusable plastic bottle is dirtier than eating rice from your pet's bowl", says Treadmill Reviews.

According to the Telegraph, the above conclusion was made after the research team of the Treadmill Reviews website tested 12 types of plastic water bottles used by athletes. After a week of use without washing, the plastic bottles contained an average of 313,499 bacteria per square centimeter. The dirtiest sample had up to 900,000 bacteria per square centimeter, more than a toilet bowl, and 60% of these can be harmful to human health.
Experts explain that not washing is the main reason why plastic bottles are unhygienic. In addition, sweat and germs you come into contact with every day can also dirty plastic bottles. To improve this situation, you should wash the bottle daily or switch to using a stainless steel water bottle.
