Hillary Clinton: 'Iron Rose' in American Politics

July 30, 2016 07:04

(Baonghean) - The US Democratic National Convention has selected former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as its presidential candidate. Winning the election this time not only makes Mrs. Clinton go down in American history as the first woman to represent a political party and become a presidential candidate, but also helps the US continue to pursue President Obama's plans to build an increasingly closer and friendlier image of the US.

Hillary, whose birth name is Hillary Diane Rodham, was born in 1947 into a middle-class family in Chicago (Illinois, USA). Her father, Hugh Ellsworth Rodham, an American citizen of Welsh (United Kingdom) descent, owned a bedspread manufacturing, design and trading business. Meanwhile, Hillary's mother, Dorothy Emma Howell, has English, Scottish, Welsh and Canadian ancestry.

As a child, Hillary attended Maine South High School, where she was class president, student council member, debate team member, and National Honor Society member. With her bubbly, inquisitive personality, Hillary was awarded the school's first social science award while still in school.

Hillary Rodham was introduced to politics in 1964, at the age of 16, supporting Republican Senator Barry Goldwater's presidential campaign. Her parents encouraged her to pursue her chosen career. Hillary's early political views were shaped by her high school history teacher and her pastor; Hillary also had the opportunity to meet Civil Rights Movement leader Martin Luther King in Chicago in 1962.

Despite her admiration for Martin Luther King, one of the most influential leaders in the history of nonviolent movements and peacemakers, Hillary Diane Rodham, who came from a traditionally conservative family, was a member of the Republican Party at the time. However, after the assassination of Martin Luther King in 1968, Hillary's political views became increasingly liberal and she decided to join the Democratic Party that same year.

Before entering American politics, Hillary Clinton was known as a lawyer working for the Children's Defense Fund in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with volunteer work, including researching immigrant issues such as housing, sanitation, health and education; researching child abuse cases at New Haven Hospital; providing free legal services to the poor...

Hillary Rodham and Bill Clinton met at Yale University when they were both students there. In 1975, the two married and moved to Arkansas. In 1993, when Bill Clinton was sworn in as the 42nd President of the United States, she became First Lady.

During this time, besides pursuing her passion for working at a law firm, Hillary Clinton was always a strong supporter of her husband, even though this was considered an extremely difficult time. Even when her husband fell in love with the youthfulness of White House intern Monica Lewinsky, Hillary still chose to forgive. With this way of overcoming difficulties with tolerance, Hillary Clinton was increasingly supported and loved by the American people.

After 8 years standing by her husband's side as First Lady, she began to escape Bill's huge shadow by winning overwhelmingly in the race for the New York Senate seat (55%/43% of the vote compared to Republican opponent Rick Lazio).

In 2006, she was re-elected after defeating Republican opponent John Spencer in what was considered the most expensive race (36 million USD). 2 years later, Hillary Clinton began her first presidential campaign. Although she continuously led her opponent in the first days, in the final rounds she lost to the black candidate Barack Obama. After that, thanks to her own support and the support of many voters, Barack Obama won the presidential election and has held the position of White House owner until today.

Under Barack Obama's leadership, Hillary Clinton was entrusted with the responsibility of US Secretary of State. With a strong personality but also full of compassion, Hillary Clinton achieved great success as Secretary of State by restoring the strength and credibility of America's global mission through shuttle diplomacy. In 2013, Hillary resigned as US Secretary of State to devote her energy to launching the campaign to win the Democratic Party's nomination for the White House in 2016.

Returning to the Democratic race, on April 12, 2015, Hillary Clinton officially announced her candidacy for president in the 2016 election. The campaign was carefully prepared by a large financial donation network, experienced coordinators, political action committees such as Ready for Hillary and Priorities USA Action. In addition, there are topics that are of interest to many voters such as increasing middle-class income, universalizing kindergarten and preschool, creating conditions for college, supporting the Obamacare program (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act)...

With practical policies supporting the lower class in American society, Hillary Clinton won with 2,740 votes while her opponent, Mr. Bernie Sanders, only received 1,824 votes. And in the Democratic Party Convention that just ended on July 29, Hillary Clinton officially accepted the nomination in the race to become the owner of the White House in the election on November 8 with Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Although the road to the White House is still thorny and can only be decided after the votes are counted, however, up to now it can be said that Hillary Clinton's chances are very high. Having held important positions such as Senator of New York State, former First Lady of the United States (1993-2001) and former Secretary of State (2009-2013) under the Obama administration shows her extensive political experience.

Mrs. Hillary is also gaining the advantage of the Democratic Party when the US economic situation is more positive and President Obama's approval rating reaches 51% - the highest level in more than 3 years and she is supported by the current President. Besides that, there are policies aimed at the middle class, the poor, immigrants, and religious beliefs..., who make up the majority of the US population.

And more importantly, if she wins, the plans and achievements that the current President has made will continue to develop. All of these reasons are a big advantage for the "steel rose" compared to candidate Donald Trump - who is considered a notorious conservative and has no experience in politics. It is very possible that American history will record the first female President named Hillary Clinton./.
