US House Speaker Paul Ryan announced on June 2 that he will vote for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

"I will vote for Donald Trump this fall. I trust him to turn the House Republicans' must-do agenda into law," Republican congressman Ryan posted on Twitter.

This is quite a surprising statement because last month, Mr. Ryan caused confusion within the Republican Party when he declared that he was "not ready" to support Mr. Trump in the race for the White House.

But after talks with billionaire businessman Trump last month under pressure from other Republican leaders, House Speaker Ryan said Trump would implement a series of policy proposals Ryan was developing to serve as the basis for the Republican platform.

Mr Ryan said Mr Trump would "help us turn these ideas into laws to help and improve people's lives".

Congressman Ryan is a prominent figure in the Republican Party, and has been suggested by many party officials to run for President, but he has rejected this possibility.
