When people plant forests to escape poverty sustainably
(Baonghean.vn) - As one of the districts with a large area of forest and forestry land, accounting for over 94% of the natural land area. Que Phong has known how to take advantage of its potential and strive with the people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.
With natural conditions suitable for economic development from forests, the Executive Committee of Que Phong District Party Committee issued Resolution No. 03-NQ/HU/2011 on forest planting and protection with the target of planting 5,500 hectares of new forest, including 2,000 rubber trees. Up to now, Que Phong has increased forest coverage while helping people increase income and sustainably reduce poverty.

Immediately after the Resolution was passed, the District People's Committee developed and approved the Project, issued guiding documents to implement the Resolution. Directed communes and forest owners to review and re-evaluate the entire forest land area under their management to plan for natural forest protection and additional forest planting in accordance with land and soil conditions.

Through the Vietnam Fatherland Front and mass organizations, strengthen propaganda activities and mobilize the masses to participate in forest protection and development. Seriously implement the policy of allocating land and forests to the people. Up to now, over 28,500 hectares of forest have been allocated to 3,870 households, thanks to which people have actively participated in afforestation, reforestation of bare hills and many economic development models associated with forest protection have emerged.
Mr. Luong Van Xuyen, Na Chang village, Tien Phong commune, said that the state assigned over 15 hectares of forest to his family, and after 5 years focused on growing acacia, he earned over 300 million VND. Now his family is continuing to grow a second crop. In addition, he has also developed livestock farming. Currently, his family has over 20 cows, selling 3-4 each year. The average annual income is nearly 200 million VND.

Nam Nhong is one of the poor communes, people's lives still face many difficulties, awareness in planting and protecting forests is still limited, the commune has focused on promoting the exemplary role of party members in participating in developing and protecting forest areas. From the examples in planting and protecting forests of party members, in 2016, people registered to plant over 18.5 hectares.
Mr. Ngan Van Chin, Chairman of Nam Nhong Commune People's Committee, said: Initially, the implementation of the commune's Resolution encountered many difficulties. However, thanks to the participation of departments and organizations, especially the exemplary spirit of Party members and officials, the forest development work in the area has had many positive changes, up to now the forest coverage rate has reached over 79%. In addition, the commune has also done a good job of forest protection, allocating forests to people for production. Currently, the whole commune has 148 households granted land use right certificates, assigning over 1,500 hectares of forest for management and protection. |
In addition, to improve the quality of the same area of planted forest, the district has also surveyed and re-evaluated a number of indigenous plants with high economic value to preserve, expand and introduce new valuable plants such as Sao den, Xa nu, Muong den, Lat hoa for planting.
Through project programs to train and transfer forestry production techniques to people. Actively sow and grow seedlings on site to ensure timely supply of plants to people.
It can be said that with the support policies of the Party and the State, the active propaganda of the departments, the awareness of the people in participating in the afforestation work is increasingly high. From there, it contributes to the development and increase of income from the forest in accordance with the socio-economic development orientation of the district, and hopefully this is a sustainable direction in hunger eradication and poverty reduction of Que Phong district.

Combined with projects: NQ30a, program 147, new rural areas opened 28 training classes, transferring techniques on forestry production. Capital used for planting raw material forests for production: 11.1 billion. Planting protective and special-use forests: 5.7 billion. Planting rubber forests: 137 billion, coverage reaching 76.7%. Encourage and facilitate the development of processing technology, expand the consumption of non-timber forest products such as rattan, bamboo and have 2 rattan raw material processing and incense stick production workshops in Dong Van and Que Son operating effectively, creating jobs for local people. |
