Traffic lights for gay couples

Instead of the old traffic lights, a series of new symbols appeared on the traffic light system in London. The symbols of people of the same sex holding hands, with a sharp heart in the middle, commemorate the event of the city's LGBT community.

Another lamp shows gender symbols, either the same male or female appearing together.

The launch of this unique symbol is also intended to show pride, support and solidarity, especially in the context of last week's horrific gun massacre at a nightclub in Orlando, USA.

“One of the great things about this city is our uniqueness and this should make people proud to be citizens of this city,” said Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims of last week’s horrific attack. We want to use these symbols to show that we stand with them and share their pain,” the Mayor of London said.
