"The doctor of death" is the nickname local media gave Santosh Pol.
This man was arrested in a town in Maharashtra state last week as part of a police investigation following a series of mysterious disappearances.
Speaking to AFP, police inspector Padmakar Ghanvat said: "Pol has confessed to killing six people, including five women and one man. We have exhumed four bodies at his farm and one outside this town."
"He kept changing his statements during the interrogation, making it very difficult to understand his motive for the crime," Ghanvat added.
All the missing victims were in the town of Wai, 230 km south of Mumbai. But few knew that this was linked to a doctor.
According to local media, police also detained Pol's nurse on suspicion of assisting the cold-blooded doctor in committing several murders.
Pol killed his latest victim with a high dose of poison when she threatened to reveal his previous murders.
This is not the latest scandal in India's medical industry. Earlier this month, police arrested the head of a major Mumbai hospital and four doctors on suspicion of organ trafficking.
