A doctor at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester (USA) was accused of operating on the wrong patient, causing the patient to lose a kidney.

"We recognize the seriousness of this allegation and are working with authorities to investigate," said Scott Zoback, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, which is investigating Saint Vincent Hospital, in a statement to the Telegram. He declined to provide further details.

Erica Noonan, a spokeswoman for Saint Vincent's Hospital, confirmed that the accused doctor mistakenly identified the patient and performed the procedure, which resulted in the removal of a kidney on the operating table. However, she insisted that "the incident occurred outside the hospital and did not involve official staff."

"Saint Vincent's Hospital is committed to ensuring the safety and quality of care for all patients. We are saddened that this incident occurred but will ensure that the patient receives all the support they need," Noonan concluded.
