Previously, at 7:29 a.m. on June 14, Su-30KM2 aircraft with registration number 8585 of Regiment 923, Division 371 (under the Air Defense - Air Force) on a training flight departing from Sao Vang airport, Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa lost contact while performing flight 705+5 (intercepting targets at sea, complex aerobatics at sea). |
On the morning of June 14, Su-30MK2 aircraft numbered 8585 took off from Sao Vang airport (Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa) to carry out a training mission. A few minutes later, at 7:29, the signal from the fighter jet disappeared over the waters of Nghe An, near Mat island. The two pilots on the missing Su-30MK2 were both experienced, including Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Khai (43 years old, Deputy Regiment Commander, Chief of Staff of Regiment 923) and Major Nguyen Huu Cuong (39 years old), Deputy Squadron Commander of Squadron 1, Regiment 923. On June 15, pilot, Major Nguyen Huu Cuong was rescued by a fishing boat in Ha Tinh and was approached by a ship of the authorities, bringing pilot Cuong to shore. At noon on June 16, CASA 212 aircraft with registration number 8983 suddenly lost contact while searching for the crashed Su-30MK2 fighter jet. There were 6 officers and 3 professional soldiers on board. The crash site was temporarily determined to be east of the demarcation line of the Gulf of Tonkin, 3 nautical miles away. In the evening of the same day, the field forces recovered some debris of the aircraft. |
