(Baonghean.vn) - While many traditional craft villages in western Nghe An are declining, the brocade weaving craft of ethnic minorities in the mountainous district of Tan Ky is developing with a new look, generating nearly 4 billion VND in income each year.

The craft of weaving brocade has contributed to stabilizing the lives of the people in Thai Minh village.

In Thai Minh village, Tien Ky commune, 100% of the households are ethnic Thai people, and almost every family owns a brocade weaving loom. In 2009, Thai Minh village was recognized as a traditional craft village, and since then, the brocade weaving craft in the village has taken a new turn for the better. The women's products are diverse, including scarves, skirts, and blouses, with rich patterns and designs that are popular with customers.

In 2014, only 45 households in the village participated in brocade weaving, but now there are over 85 households. Along with that, the quantity and quality of products produced have continuously increased. On average, the villagers produce over 20,000 products of various types each year, generating a total income of over 2.6 billion VND.

Ms. Le Thi Hoa from Thai Minh village said: "I have been involved in brocade weaving for over 30 years. I find that brocade weaving brings a decent income to my family, earning more than 2 million VND per month, and I only do it during my free time between farming seasons."

In 2015, Thai Minh village was awarded a certificate recognizing it as a traditional brocade weaving village by the People's Committee of Nghe An province. This is a great honor and source of pride for the villagers, and also serves as motivation for them to continue to maintain and develop the traditional brocade weaving craft of their ethnic group.

Leaders of Tan Ky district presented 20 million VND in support to Thai Minh village on the occasion of the village being recognized as a traditional brocade weaving village.

Not only in Tien Ky commune, but also in communes such as Nghia Hoan, Dong Van, Nghia Thai, Phu Son, etc., the brocade weaving craft is developing quite strongly. Currently, Tan Ky district has 42 weaving groups with 376 women participating. On average, each person earns an additional income of 1.5 million to 2 million VND per month. The products are popular with customers in many localities.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hoa, Deputy Head of the Department of Industry and Trade of Tan Ky District, added: “To maintain and develop the brocade weaving craft of ethnic minorities in Tan Ky District, the province and district annually provide support policies for the people. In 2014, the provincial industrial promotion agency supported the brocade weaving village in Tien Ky with 45 million VND, and the district People's Committee provided 100 million VND. Following that, in 2015, the provincial industrial promotion agency supported the brocade weaving craft in Phu Son commune with 45 million VND. This year, the province continues to provide 45 million VND in support and organizes training courses on brocade weaving in Tan Ky District.”

Thanks to the richness and diversity of brocade products in Tan Ky, they are very popular with customers.

For generations, brocade weaving has been an indispensable part of the traditional culture of the ethnic minority communities in Tan Ky mountainous district. To ensure the brocade weaving craft fully realizes its inherent value, active participation from businesses in product distribution is crucial. Furthermore, relevant authorities need to provide guidance through specific policies to ensure the sustainable development of brocade weaving in Tan Ky district, contributing to the preservation of the cultural identity of the Thai people in western Nghe An province.
