After drinking until 3am, Ms. Tran To Minh Chau and Mr. Du had an argument. After being beaten and cursed by Mr. Du, Chau pulled out a knife and stabbed Mr. Du to death.

On June 23, Dong Nai Provincial People's Court held a first-instance trial and sentenced defendant Tran To Minh Chau - 25 years old, residing in Thien Tan commune, Vinh Cuu district to 14 years in prison for murder.

According to the indictment, Chau had two children (the older one was 9 years old, the younger one was 4 years old) and lived as husband and wife with Nguyen Phuong Du - 29 years old, residing in Thien Tan commune, Vinh Cuu district at Chau's biological mother's house.

At about 9:00 p.m. on October 15, 2014, Chau and Mr. Du organized a drinking party with three other people at Mr. Le Kim Cuong's house.

After drinking until about 3am the next morning, Du and Chau got into an argument and fought, but were stopped by everyone.

Chau went to the kitchen, took a knife hidden on her person and another knife in her hand, then took the bike, picked up her child and walked home. At this time, Du continued to curse and tried to hit Chau with his hand, but Chau used a knife to stab him in the left chest.

Du was taken to the emergency room but died later. Chau surrendered to the commune police.
